Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
